Ghana partners Turkish firms to design new water treatment plant in Accra
The Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two leading Turkish infrastructure companies to develop engineering designs for a new water treatment plant serving communities in eastern Accra. The agreement involves Kocak Çevre, an experienced engineering and construction firm specialising in water supply systems, and Hacıoğlu Holding A.Ş, a fully integrated infrastructure company focusing on large-scale water systems, energy networks, and related projects.Under the partnership, the firms will collaborate on the design of a facility with a production capacity of approximately 300,000 cubic metres per day.The plant is expected to improve the potable water supply to fast-growing communities along the eastern corridor of the capital.Kenneth Gilbert Adjei described the project as a crucial step toward meeting the increasing water demand driven by rapid urbanisation and population growth in the Greater Accra Region.Once completed, the treatment plant will enhance water reliability, expand service coverage, and strengthen long-term water security for the eastern zones of Accra. The signing of the MoU initiates the technical planning phase, setting the stage for full project development and eventual construction of the large-scale facility.
