Singapore East-West Water Conveyance Tunnel and Main Transmission Line
The Singapore East–West Water Transmission Tunnel and Backbone Pipeline Project represents a strategic national infrastructure initiative developed to strengthen Singapore’s water security and ensure integrated water resource management across the island.
Implemented for PUB – Singapore’s National Water Agency, the project was delivered under a publicly funded turnkey contractor model and involved the construction of an extensive 500-kilometer water transmission backbone network, including main trunk pipelines and integrated distribution systems.
The pipeline system consists of dual transmission lines with diameters ranging from 2200 mm to 2400 mm, constructed using special epoxy-coated steel pipes designed for high durability, corrosion resistance, and long-term operational reliability.
The infrastructure connects 17 reservoirs across Singapore, five NEWater reclaimed water plants, and multiple seawater desalination facilities, forming a comprehensive national water distribution backbone. The main transmission lines were constructed using deep tunnel excavation technologies, while portions of the distribution network were installed through near-surface pipeline systems.
The project began in 2014 and was successfully completed in 2018, becoming a critical component of Singapore’s national water management infrastructure and significantly enhancing the resilience and efficiency of the country’s water supply system.
